On your Windows desktop: use Cursor Style for Windows. Inside Chrome tabs: the Cursor Style browser extension has its own separate set of trails.

How it behaves

Soft candy-coloured dots - pink, mint and lemon - bouncing after your mouse.

Move your mouse to draw a trail. When you stop, it gently finishes and fades away.

What it needs

Use Cursor Style for Windows on Windows 10 or 11. Preview here first, then choose Apply in Windows and confirm in the app. A preview never changes your desktop.

Effects pause for the lock screen, administrator prompts, full-screen apps and Remote Desktop. Some apps draw their own pointer. Effects may appear in screenshots and screen sharing.

How to get this effect

Install Cursor Style for Windows - free, about 3 MB, no admin rights.
Click Apply in Windows on this page.
The app shows the trail first. Confirm, and it follows your mouse everywhere.

Turning it off

In the app, switch the trail off - it stops straight away and your mouse looks normal again. Nothing is left behind on your PC.

Privacy

No account and no tracking in the app. It only downloads cursor files from cursor.style, keeps its settings on your PC and changes your own mouse pointer settings - nothing else.
